Varaha Registers Its Second Industrial Biochar Plant with Puro.earth

August 20 2025

Varaha announced the registration of its second industrial biochar facility under the Puro.earth

Standard. The first plant, registered in October 2024, marked a historic milestone by becoming the first industrial biochar facility in India.

As a leading carbon removal company in Asia, Varaha reinforces its commitment to positioning India on the global map of climate leadership. The new plant produces biochar from agricultural waste, which not only sequesters CO₂ but also avoids emissions from improper waste management and the use of fossil fuels.

Certification under the Puro Standard guarantees science-based methodologies, as well as transparency and traceability at every stage of the process.

Benno Fuchs, Chief Operating Officer of Puro.earth, highlighted:

“We congratulate Varaha for its leadership in the region; this expansion represents a key new step for biochar in India and beyond. Puro.earth‘s certification ensures that these projects generate a lasting climate impact and meet the highest global carbon removal standards.”
