Vertical Aerospace Advances to Final Phase of VX4 Transition Testing

9-Sep-2025

Vertical Aerospace announced the successful completion of Phase 3 of wing-supported flight testing with its full-scale VX4 prototype. During this process, the aircraft took off, flew, and landed like a conventional airplane, confirming stable and efficient performance.

The company achieved key milestones, including crewed flights covering 250 miles (400 km), a top speed of 120 knots (222 km/h), and an altitude of 2,000 feet, collecting more than 22 billion data points validating aerodynamic models, noise levels, and system reliability.

With approval from the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and in coordination with the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), Vertical is now preparing for the final transition phase, which will demonstrate the VX4’s ability to switch between vertical lift and wing-supported flight, a critical stage for its future commercial operation. The company maintains its target for type certification by 2028.
