Skyports Drone Services Conducts Flight Tests for "Project Heart of the Dragon" at Snowdonia Aerospace Centre
7 April 2026
The Skyports Drone Services team carried out final BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line of Sight) flight tests at the Snowdonia Aerospace Centre as part of Project Heart of the Dragon, an initiative focused on improving medical logistics using drones in the UK.
In collaboration with SLiNK-TECH and Volant Autonomy, the tests focused on validating new “detect and avoid” algorithms, a key technology for enabling safe drone operations in non-segregated airspace, one of the biggest regulatory and technical challenges in unmanned aviation.
The project is being developed in support of the Welsh Blood Service, with the aim of evaluating the use of drones for the urgent transport of blood to remote areas of Wales. This application seeks to significantly reduce delivery times in critical situations, improving medical response and patient outcomes.
This initiative reinforces the progress toward scalable and secure BVLOS operations, while positioning drones as a viable solution for high-priority medical missions in complex environments.
