Kratos and Elroy Air Sign U.S. Agreement for Exclusive Production of the Chaparral VTOL Cargo Drone

Sep-23-2025

Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Inc. (Nasdaq: KTOS) and Elroy Air announced the signing of a five-year strategic agreement that makes Kratos the exclusive U.S. manufacturer of the Chaparral, the hybrid-electric vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) cargo drone. This agreement seeks to accelerate serial production of the aircraft, which can carry up to 300 pounds of cargo over a range of 300 miles, offering solutions for military resupply, humanitarian aid, and commercial deliveries.

Initial production will take place at Kratos’ Sacramento, California, facility, followed by a high-volume production facility in Oklahoma City. This project will create jobs in both regions and strengthen the aerospace supply chain in several states. The first production units are scheduled for 2026.

Executives from both companies emphasized that the collaboration leverages Kratos’ extensive experience in large-scale unmanned aircraft manufacturing and its ability to optimize costs, allowing Elroy Air to meet Chaparral’s growing demand in the defense and commercial markets.

The two companies’ systems will be on joint display at the Miramar Air Show, held September 26-28 at the Marine Corps Air Station in San Diego, California.
