IndiGo Invests in Sarla Aviation for Air Taxis in India

16 April 2026

IndiGo Ventures announced a strategic investment in Sarla Aviation with the goal of developing India’s first nationwide air taxi network, focused on routes between 0 and 300 km.

The initiative seeks to address a key mobility challenge in the country: medium distances that are neither efficient by road nor viable with traditional aviation, including urban and intercity transfers, as well as medical emergencies.

The project aims to integrate vertiports with existing airports to facilitate faster connections in cities like Bengaluru and Mumbai, significantly reducing travel times in highly congested environments.

This alliance follows the global model of collaboration between airlines and eVTOL manufacturers, aligning operational capabilities and technological development to accelerate certification and commercial deployment. In this case, it stands out for consolidating a completely domestic ecosystem, combining manufacturer and operator within the Indian market.

India is thus positioning itself as an environment with high potential demand for advanced air mobility, driven by population density, urban congestion, and logistical needs in sectors such as healthcare and tourism.
