Horizon Aircraft Selects Pratt & Whitney Canada's PT6A Engine for Its Cavorite X7 Hybrid eVTOL

14 -oct-2025

Horizon Aircraft has announced the acquisition of Pratt & Whitney Canada’s PT6A engine, renowned for its reliability and efficiency, for its Cavorite X7 hybrid eVTOL aircraft. This agreement marks a decisive step in the development of one of the world’s first hybrid eVTOLs.

The PT6A engine, widely used in aviation for its proven performance, will allow the Cavorite X7 to fly most of its mission as a conventional aircraft, offering greater speed, range, and efficiency, while reducing hydrocarbon emissions by up to 30% compared to traditional aircraft.

Unlike fully electric eVTOLs, the Cavorite X7’s hybrid gas/electric design is designed for real-world operations—military, emergency, and commercial—without relying on electric charging infrastructure.

Brandon Robinson, CEO of Horizon Aircraft, emphasized that engine selection was an essential step for the project:

“The PT6A is exactly what we needed for our full-scale aircraft, and collaborating with Pratt & Whitney Canada is a huge win for both companies.”

This agreement strengthens Canada’s position as a key player in the global advanced air mobility (AAM) industry, consolidating its leadership in aerospace innovation.
