OMV Petrom Develops Photovoltaic Park at Petrobrazi Refinery to Support its Decarbonization Strategy
13 Feb 2026
OMV Petrom, the largest integrated energy producer in Southeast Europe, will begin construction of an approximately 7 MW photovoltaic park at its Petrobrazi refinery, with the aim of supplying renewable energy for the facility’s internal consumption.
The project will occupy approximately 110,000 square meters within the industrial complex and will cover part of the refinery’s energy demand with renewable electricity, contributing to both operational efficiency and the company’s environmental objectives.
The initiative also supports Petrobrazi’s decarbonization plans, including the future production of green hydrogen for the new SAF/HVO sustainable fuels unit currently under construction. This unit will integrate two hydrogen facilities designed to operate on renewable energy.
The project has a budget of up to RON 45.4 million (including VAT), of which RON 8.4 million will be co-financed through the Modernization Fund. The project has been awarded and construction is expected to begin shortly, with completion estimated for the remainder of this year. The park will be operated by OMV Petrom.
With this investment, the company continues to strengthen its energy transition strategy, integrating renewable generation into key industrial assets and advancing the production of sustainable fuels for aviation and transportation.
