LOT Polish Airlines integrates SAF into IATA's CO2 Connect calculator, strengthening climate transparency

11 Feb 2026

LOT Polish Airlines has become the first airline to report its data in the IATA CO2 Connect calculator, incorporating the emission reductions resulting from the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

The inclusion of SAF in the CO₂ per passenger calculations follows specific accounting rules and practices, ensuring that emission reductions are accounted for under consistent Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) standards.

According to LOT representatives, the use of SAF is currently the most effective tool for reducing emissions in aviation. As the airline increases its use of these sustainable fuels, it aims to ensure passengers understand the real impact of this reduction and its contribution to the industry’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

LOT was also one of the first airlines to contribute data to IATA CO2 Connect, a platform that recently surpassed 100 participants, solidifying its position as a benchmark for transparency and emissions standardization in the aviation sector.
