EHang Completes First Transprovincial eVTOL Flight in China, Crossing the Qiongzhou Strait

2 Jan 2025

EHang announced that its EH216 series unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) successfully completed a point-to-point flight across the Qiongzhou Strait, marking China’s first transprovincial eVTOL passenger flight. The operation connected Haikou (Hainan) with the port of Xuwen, Zhanjiang (Guangdong).

The journey covered approximately 22 kilometers in 18 minutes, significantly reducing travel time compared to traditional ferry services. According to the company, the operation validated the safety and stability of the EH216 in complex maritime environments.

This milestone provides a key benchmark for future applications, including low-altitude regional transport, intercity mobility, island tourism, and emergency response, further advancing Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) in China.
