Salvador Bahia Airport Marks Historic Milestone by Begins Fueling with Sustainable Aviation Fuel

4 Dec 2025

Salvador Bahia Airport has become the first airport in Brazil to fuel commercial flights with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), using a 10% pure SAF blend, the highest proportion regularly applied in the country. This advancement positions Bahia as a national leader in the transition to lower-emission air operations.

This achievement comes as Salvador Bahia Airport has been recognized as the first airport in the Americas to obtain ACA 5 (Airport Carbon Accreditation) certification, the highest level within the global airport decarbonization program. This milestone is the result of collaboration between the Government of the State of Bahia and Vibra, strengthening the regional commitment to sustainable energy solutions.

The initiative represents a significant step for Brazilian aviation, bringing the sector closer to a future of operations with a lower climate impact while maintaining efficient connectivity between people, destinations, and economic activities.
