DHL Express and Phillips 66 Boost SAF Use in the US with Multi-Year Agreement
21 Nov 2025
DHL Express announced a landmark agreement with Phillips 66 to supply more than 240,000 metric tons of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) over a three-year period, equivalent to approximately 83 million gallons. This commitment will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by around 737,000 metric tons compared to using conventional fuel, making it one of the largest SAF agreements signed by a US producer and within the air cargo sector. The fuel will be produced at the Rodeo Renewable Energy Complex in California, one of the world’s largest renewable fuel facilities, and will be delivered primarily to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), with plans to expand distribution to other West Coast airports where DHL operates.
The agreement utilizes a reservation and claim model, enabling DHL to manage and reduce its carbon footprint, as well as that of its customers, through the certified use of sustainable fuels. Executives from both companies emphasized that this collaboration represents a decisive step toward the decarbonization of aviation and logistics, reinforcing DHL’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050
The company has established multiple global Sustainable Fuel Agreements (SFAs) since 2021, and this new agreement strengthens its GoGreen Plus program, designed to reduce Scope 3 emissions from air transport through sustainable solutions.
