In Pengerang, Johor, the groundbreaking ceremony was held for the new Pengerang Biorefinery Sdn. Bhd. biorefinery, a joint venture between PETRONAS, Enilive SpA, and Euglena Co., Ltd. This project marks a key step in Asia’s energy transition, with a processing capacity of up to 650,000 tons per year of renewable feedstock, destined to produce SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel), HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil), and bionaphtha. The plant is expected to begin operations in the second half of 2028.

The facility will use used cooking oil, animal fats, and vegetable oil processing waste as feedstock, reinforcing the three companies’ commitment to a cleaner and more sustainable energy model. The company leaders emphasized that this strategic alliance will advance the transition to low-carbon mobility, strengthening global production capacity for sustainable biofuels.

Located within the Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC), the biorefinery will leverage its strategic position and access to international shipping routes to efficiently meet the growing demand for biofuels in the Asian region. The ceremony was attended by local authorities and executives from PETRONAS, Enilive, and Euglena, symbolizing international cooperation toward decarbonization and a sustainable energy future.
