HHLA Sky Promotes the Use of Drones for Safer Port Operations in Denmark

7 Nov 2025

In Rønne, Denmark, HHLA Sky GmbH and DanPilot – Danish State Pilotage are advancing the VesCo project, an initiative that aims to demonstrate how drones can improve safety and efficiency in port maneuvers.

X25 drones are being programmed to automatically track vessels entering or leaving the port, providing maritime pilots with a real-time aerial view that enhances monitoring and reduces risks in complex environments.

Following initial trials in the port of Esbjerg, Rønne was selected as the new operations center due to its challenging environment, characterized by offshore wind turbines and airspace with low drone traffic. Trials will continue, solidifying this project as a benchmark in port automation and safety.
