Zipline Reaches 120 Million Miles Fly Without Injuries: A Milestone in Autonomous Air Transport

29 Oct 2025

In 2023, for every 120 million miles traveled by road in the United States, there were more than 700 crashes, 100 injuries, and at least one fatality. This week, Zipline reached the same milestone in miles flown—120 million—without reporting any injuries, demonstrating a significant advancement in operational safety while saving thousands of lives each year through its autonomous medical deliveries.

Zipline, a leader in autonomous air transport logistics, operates fleets of drones that deliver medical supplies, blood, and critical materials in rural and urban environments with response times that can be critical. This achievement underscores how unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology is maturing: not only in terms of operational capacity and range, but also in its potential to offer safer, more efficient, and more sustainable services than ground-based alternatives in critical situations.

This milestone also reinforces the narrative that advanced autonomy—combined with operating procedures, safety redundancies, and remote control—can transform entire sectors of logistics and healthcare, reducing risks and improving access to vital services.
