Airbus and Cathay Form Co-Investment Partnership to Expand Sustainable Aviation Fuel Adoption
24-oct-2025
Airbus and Cathay Group announced a joint investment of up to $70 million to accelerate the development and production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in Asia and globally. The agreement, presented during the IATA Global Sustainability Symposium in Hong Kong, seeks to advance projects that promote the scaling of SAF toward 2030 and beyond.
The two companies will collaborate to evaluate initiatives based on their commercial viability, technological maturity, and long-term consumption potential. The commitment also includes promoting policies that facilitate the supply and demand for SAF in Asia, a region with significant raw material, industrial capacity, and aviation market potential.
Airbus and Cathay have a long-standing partnership dating back to 1989, when the airline signed its first Airbus aircraft order. The Cathay Group currently operates 86 Airbus aircraft and has more than 70 more on order for future delivery.
