Archer Acquires Lilium's Patent Portfolio for €18 Million, Strengthening Its Leadership in eVTOL Technology

15-oct-2025

Archer Aviation announced at NBAA 2025 in Las Vegas that it has won the competitive process to acquire Lilium GmbH’s portfolio of approximately 300 patents, valued at €18 million, thus consolidating its position as a leader in the development of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.

The acquisition includes key innovations in high-voltage systems, battery management, advanced aircraft design, flight controls, electric motors, propellers, and ducted fans. With this acquisition, Archer’s global portfolio exceeds 1,000 patents, strengthening its innovation capability in advanced air mobility technologies.

Founded in 2015, Lilium has invested more than $1.5 billion in the development of pioneering technologies for eVTOLs, and is recognized for its forward-thinking vision and for holding one of the world’s most prominent patent portfolios in ducted fan technology.

Adam Goldstein, Archer’s founder and CEO, said: “Lilium’s pioneering work pushed the boundaries of eVTOL design, and we are excited to integrate its cutting-edge technologies into our product roadmap as we continue to advance the next generation of electric aviation.”

This acquisition comes amid consolidation within the advanced air mobility sector, following the recent acquisition of Volocopter by a Chinese investment group, and reinforces Archer’s commitment to maintaining U.S. technological leadership in electric aviation.
