Hitachi Energy and Arcadia eFuels Partner to Develop Large-Scale eSAF Plant in Denmark

3-Oct-2025

Vordingborg, Denmark. Hitachi Energy and Arcadia eFuels have signed a definitive EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) agreement to provide the complete electrical infrastructure for the upcoming electronic sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF) plant to be built in the region.

The project represents one of the first large-scale eSAF production complexes in the world, with the capacity to generate approximately 80,000 tons of eFuels per year, which will prevent more than 260,000 tons of CO₂ emissions annually.

As part of the agreement, Hitachi Energy will be responsible for the battery energy storage system (BESS), the complete grid connection, and the engineering, procurement, installation, and commissioning of the electrical systems.

The plant will operate exclusively on renewable electricity, demonstrating how technological integration can significantly reduce emissions from the aviation industry and support the European Union’s climate goals.

Arcadia eFuels CEO Amy Hebert highlighted the partnership, stating, “Hitachi Energy is a great partner for Arcadia eFuels. They are experts in systems integration, with extensive experience in pioneering technology and power conversion solutions, while we specialize in the development and production of eSAFs. Their track record in renewable energy integration allows us to leverage our strengths and ensure the success of the project.”

The agreement reflects how global collaboration between technology and energy leaders can accelerate the transition to carbon-free aviation, marking a key step toward a more sustainable future for air transport.
