Technip Energies to Promote Waste-to-Methanol Ecoplant Project in Spainxt Here

1-Oct-2025

Technip Energies (PARIS:TE) has been awarded two engineering services contracts by Repsol for the development of the Ecoplanta Molecular Recycling Solutions project, a pioneering facility to be built in El Morell, near Tarragona.

It will be the first plant in Europe capable of large-scale transformation of non-recyclable municipal solid waste and biomass into renewable and circular methanol, using Enerkem’s cutting-edge gasification technology. The facility will process up to 400,000 tons of waste per year, producing 240,000 tons of methanol, reducing 3.4 million tons of CO₂ equivalent in its first ten years.

The project, co-financed by the European Union Innovation Fund, strengthens the strategic collaboration between Technip Energies and Enerkem, accelerating the transition to circular solutions on a commercial scale and supporting European sustainability goals.
