Zipline and the Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC) implemented an innovative model: using drones to deliver life-saving treatments to the most affected districts.

August 21 2025

In just four months, thanks to these aerial deliveries, enough doses were distributed to treat approximately 900 severe malaria cases before they became life-threatening. The speed of the drones shortened the time between diagnosis and treatment, which was key to saving lives and relieving pressure on healthcare workers.

Professionals on the ground are already feeling the impact. Mr. Jackson Kalinijabo Karima, Director of the Health Unit in Gisagara, highlighted:
“Receiving basic malaria commodities through Zipline has been a game changer. Rapid drone deliveries mean faster care, saving lives in our communities.”

As part of WorldMosquitoDay, this initiative demonstrates how drone logistics is becoming an essential tool for strengthening health systems and advancing malaria eradication in Rwanda.
