✈️ Southwest Airlines Sells SAFFiRE Renewables to Conestoga Energy

August 18 2025 

Southwest Airlines has sold its subsidiary, SAFFiRE Renewables, which converts corn stover into ethanol to produce SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel), to Conestoga Energy.

Conestoga will integrate the SAFFiRE team and relocate its pilot project to Kansas, with an expected start date of 2026. The company stated that this acquisition places it at the forefront of the multi-billion-dollar SAF market, reinforcing its commitment to low-emission fuels and U.S. agricultural communities.
