Skyports Drone Services and AZ Turnhout have launched a drone medical delivery service in Kempen, Belgium.

August 4 2025

Marking a milestone by operating Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) flights from a Remote Operations Center (ROC) in the United Kingdom.

This initiative seeks to optimize the transport of urgent medical cargo between the AZ Turnhout St. Jozef and AZ Herentals hospital campuses, significantly reducing delivery times compared to traditional road methods.

Using RigiTech Eiger and Speedbird DLV-2 drones, the operation will cover key routes:
🚁 A-kwadraat ↔ AZ Herentals (18.7 km in 13 minutes)
🚁 A-kwadraat ↔ St Jozef (4.4 km in 7 minutes)

Regulatory approval to pilot drones from Skyports’ ROC in Buckinghamshire, UK, represents a strategic advance, enabling network scalability and reducing logistics costs for the medical network.

The project envisions flights five days a week in this first phase, with the vision of establishing the first permanent drone medical delivery network in Belgium, offering automated delivery stations at key hospitals and continuous 24/7 operations.
