Whisper Aero Introduces JetFoil, a New Lift Technology for VTOL and STOL Aircraft

8 June 2026

Whisper Aero has unveiled JetFoil, a new powered lift concept designed for VTOL (vertical takeoff and landing) and STOL (short takeoff and landing) aircraft, aiming to improve efficiency, reduce noise, and simplify flight operations.

According to the company, JetFoil integrates its UltraQuiet electric thrusters directly into the leading edges of the wings, utilizing upper surface blowing techniques and the Coandă effect to generate additional lift during takeoff and landing.

Whisper Aero states that this architecture enables seamless transitions between different flight modes and could reduce reliance on conventional runways, expanding operational possibilities for future regional and advanced air mobility aircraft.

The company stated that it continues to conduct tests and validations of its propulsion systems and JetFoil technology in collaboration with organizations such as the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Navy, and NASA, through various research and development contracts.

In addition, Whisper Aero noted that it is working with aircraft manufacturers to design, build, and test JetFoil-equipped prototypes over the coming months, with the goal of evaluating their performance in real-world applications.

Although the technology is still in the development and validation phase, the company believes that JetFoil could represent a new alternative for future electric, hybrid, and advanced air mobility aircraft seeking to combine low emissions, reduced noise, and more flexible operations.
