Joby Completes First eVTOL Flights in New York

28 April 2026

On April 27, 2026, Joby Aviation completed the first point-to-point demonstration flights of an electric air taxi in New York City history, marking a significant step forward in integrating eVTOL aircraft into a highly complex urban environment.

The week-long campaign utilized the existing network of heliports, connecting John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) with various areas of Manhattan, including Downtown Skyport and Midtown heliports. These routes reflect the goal of significantly reducing travel times, from ground journeys of up to two hours to flights of less than 10 minutes.

The flights were conducted in coordination with the Federal Aviation Administration and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, as part of the eIPP program, which aims to facilitate the commercial deployment of advanced air mobility in the United States.

In addition to validating operations in controlled airspace, the initiative also includes adapting existing infrastructure, including the electrification of heliports in collaboration with Skyports Infrastructure.

This advancement adds to Joby’s progress in its certification process and its expansion strategy in the urban market, where it seeks to integrate air solutions within the existing transportation system.
