FAA Reopens Comment Period on BVLOS Drone Regulations
3 Feb 2026
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has reopened the public comment period on a proposed regulation designed to allow safe and routine drone operations beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS). This initiative seeks to establish a regulatory framework that strengthens airspace safety and facilitates the integration of drones into larger-scale operations.
The proposed regulation would expand the benefits of drone use in key sectors such as package delivery, agriculture, infrastructure inspection, and public safety by enabling BVLOS flights under standardized and controlled conditions. According to the FAA, this advancement is crucial to unlocking the commercial and operational potential of unmanned systems in the United States.
The comment period will remain open for 12 days, during which companies, operators, institutions, and the general public can provide technical and operational feedback that will contribute to the development of a more robust final regulation aligned with the needs of the industry.
