Gevo Strengthens the Credibility of Its Carbon Removal Credits with “A” Rating from BeZero Carbon

12 Jan 2026

Gevo, Inc. (United States), a company dedicated to the production of renewable fuels and carbon dioxide removal credits, announced that its Gevo North Dakota (GND) facility received an “A” rating from BeZero Carbon, one of the world’s most recognized carbon rating agencies. This upgrade reinforces the high quality, permanence, and reliability of the carbon removal credits (CORCs) generated by the project.

The North Dakota plant is currently the largest producer of technology-based carbon removal credits and the only ethanol-related carbon capture and storage (CCS) project issuing credits with a 1,000-year permanence, under Puro.earth’s Geologically Stored Carbon methodology. This attribute is key for corporate buyers and investors seeking environmental integrity and real-world durability in voluntary carbon markets (VCMs).

From an investment perspective, the “A” rating significantly reduces due diligence risk, improves the potential liquidity of the loans, and increases their expected value as supplemental income for Gevo’s operations. The facility has an operational Class VI well since 2022 and an annual storage capacity of up to 1 million tons of CO₂, positioning GND as a stable and scalable source of high-quality CO₂.

The project also incorporates a robust agricultural traceability approach. Most of the corn used comes from within a 75-mile radius, and Gevo is implementing Verity, its proprietary measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) platform, to document sustainable farming practices and increase transparency across the value chain. The company plans to expand this approach through a sustainable sourcing pilot program, further strengthening the environmental integrity and attractiveness of its loans.

In a context of increased scrutiny of carbon credit quality and growing demand for verifiable carbon removal solutions, BeZero’s rating positions Gevo above comparable projects, offering a clear proposition for investors seeking exposure to climate assets with solid technical, regulatory, and market fundamentals.
