Topsoe Selected by Petrobras for Potential SAF and Renewable Diesel Project in Brazil

25 Feb 2026

Topsoe announced that it has been selected by Petrobras for a potential new Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel production and blending project in Brazil.

The project would be located at the Boaventura Energy Complex in Itaboraí, Rio de Janeiro, and would utilize Topsoe’s HydroFlex® technology to process approximately 1,000,000 tons of feedstock per year.

Should the project reach the final investment decision (FID), it would become one of the largest SAF developments in Brazil, strengthening the region’s renewable fuel production capacity.

The initiative would combine Petrobras’ strategic position in the Brazilian energy sector with Topsoe’s hydroprocessing technology, with the potential to significantly contribute to the supply of SAF and renewable diesel in Latin America. Furthermore, the project would represent a significant step in fuel diversification in one of the region’s most dynamic energy markets.

The potential investment reflects the growing interest in Latin America in expanding local production of sustainable fuels, in line with global decarbonization goals for the aviation and transportation sectors.
