Sarla Aviation and the Government of Goa Agree to Develop Coastal Air Mobility with eVTOL in India
15 Dec 2025
Sarla Aviation and the Government of Goa have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore the implementation of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) air mobility across the state, aiming to position Goa as India’s first coastal air mobility state. The initiative seeks to address one of the main challenges for regional tourism: road congestion and slow travel times on the final leg of the journey to hotels, resorts, beaches, and heritage destinations.
The agreement envisions the development of a clean, quiet, and zero-emission air transport system, specifically designed to complement Goa’s coastal geography and high tourist traffic. The operational concept anticipates that travelers arriving at Dabolim or Mopa airports will be able to directly access eVTOL boarding pods and travel to their final destinations in minutes, reducing travel times and preventing the saturation of ground infrastructure.
The proposal focuses not on a massive deployment of air taxis, but on a precision air mobility model aligned with the state’s environmental priorities and aimed at enhancing the visitor experience without compromising coastal ecosystems. This strategy seeks to support tourism growth while preserving Goa’s natural and cultural heritage.
The project positions the state as a potential benchmark for other coastal regions and heritage destinations in India, in a context where increased tourism is putting pressure on infrastructure and natural environments. If it progresses as planned, the model developed in Goa could serve as a replicable basis for integrating sustainable air mobility in environmentally sensitive areas, strengthening regional connectivity and tourism appeal in a responsible manner.
