2025-September-03
London, UK / New York, USA – September 3, 2025. Vertical Aerospace (NYSE: EVTL), a global aerospace and technology company pioneering electric aviation, announced the addition of Patrick Ky to its Board of Directors, strengthening its leadership in regulatory and certification matters. The appointment is effective September 1, 2025.
Ky served as Executive Director of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) from 2013 to 2023, during which time he established the agency as a global leader in safety and innovation. Under his leadership, EASA developed the first comprehensive regulatory framework for eVTOL aircraft, known as SC-VTOL, published in 2019, and oversaw regulatory milestones such as the certification of the Boeing 777X, Airbus A321XLR, and the safe return of the 737 MAX.
Vertical aims to certify its VX4 aircraft in 2028, concurrently with the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and EASA, achieving the highest global safety standards. Ky’s experience reinforces the company’s strategy, which already includes other regulatory experts such as Trevor Woods, former Director of Certification at EASA, and Eamonn Brennan, former Director General of Eurocontrol.
Currently, Ky is Executive Director of the International Centre for Aviation Innovation (ICAI), an initiative that brings together governments, industry, and research institutions to drive innovative solutions in aviation. His career has been recognized with international awards, including the Philip J. Klass Lifetime Achievement Award from Aviation Week in 2025.
