Neste Expands SAF Supply to Cathay Group in Europe, the United States, and Asia-Pacific
18 Dec 2025
Neste and Cathay Group have agreed to supply Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel™ (SAF) to the group’s flight operations in Europe, the United States, and Asia-Pacific, with the aim of expanding the use of sustainable fuels across its international network.
The supply is already underway at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and Los Angeles International Airport, where Cathay Pacific uses SAF blended with conventional fuel. In the Asia-Pacific region, Neste has delivered SAF at Singapore Changi Airport for flights operated by Air Hong Kong, Cathay Group’s wholly-owned cargo airline. In all cases, the fuel is integrated into existing airport facilities by blending it with conventional Jet A-1.
The agreement aligns with Cathay Group’s strategy to reduce emissions associated with its flight operations, considering SAF to be the most viable solution currently available for decarbonizing commercial air transport. From the supplier’s perspective, Neste highlights that its global production and distribution network allows it to serve airlines with operations in multiple regions, facilitating the progressive adoption of SAF on an international scale.
The Sustainable Aviation Fuel supplied by Neste is produced from renewable raw materials derived from waste and byproducts, such as used cooking oil and residual animal fats. According to the company, this fuel can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% over its life cycle, compared to conventional fossil fuel. SAF is certified for commercial use and can currently be blended up to 50% with traditional fuel, without requiring modifications to engines or airport infrastructure.
Neste currently has a global SAF production capacity of 1.5 million tons per year, with plans to expand to 2.2 million tons by 2027, in response to growing demand from the aviation sector.
