Neste and United Airlines announced the expansion of their partnership to supply Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) to three major US airports: George Bush Intercontinental (Houston), Newark Liberty International (New Jersey), and Dulles International (Washington, D.C.).

With this agreement, United becomes the first commercial airline to use SAF on flights from these three airports. The fuel, Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel™, is blended with conventional fuel before use to meet the required technical specifications.

Deliveries began in July 2025 in Houston and will continue through October, while shipments to Newark and Dulles began in September and will extend through the end of 2025. The supply is made through existing pipeline infrastructure, originating from Neste’s Houston terminals.

“Introducing sustainable aviation fuel for the first time at our hubs in Houston, Newark, and Dulles is another significant milestone in United’s sustainability journey,” said Lauren Riley, United’s Chief Sustainability Officer. “While United remains the largest user of SAF in the U.S., with more than 4,300 metric tons (13 million gallons) last year, we recognize that growing the SAF market requires support from state and federal governments. We will continue to collaborate with stakeholders, like Neste, across the aviation value chain to encourage policymakers to implement sound market incentives that promote low-carbon energy.”

Carl Nyberg, Senior Vice President of Renewable Products at Neste, emphasized:

It is crucial that more states implement proven incentive policy frameworks to accelerate SAF production and support the aviation industry in its ambitious goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. This agreement strengthens the relationship between the two companies, which already collaborate at Chicago O’Hare International and San Francisco International Airport, where local regulatory frameworks have encouraged the use of renewable fuels.
