MioTech Becomes the First Biochar Supplier in China to Issue CORCs

2025-September-03

Nanjing, China – September 2025. MioTech reached a historic milestone by becoming the first biochar supplier in China to issue CORCs (Carbon Removal Certificates). The Nian’da Biochar Project, located in Nanjing, generated 330 CORCs in its first accreditation period, marking a key advancement in the country’s carbon removal efforts.

China produces approximately 0.8 billion tons of agricultural waste annually. MioTech’s project addresses this issue by collecting agricultural waste in collaboration with local farmers, processing it through pyrolysis into biochar, and then applying it to the same fields from which the waste originates. This model allows for long-term CO₂ sequestration, improving soil quality, reducing fertilizer use, increasing crop yields and quality, and generating additional income and environmental awareness in the farming community.

The project passed Puro.earth’s Preliminary Assessment and received certification from an external auditor. MioTech plans to reach a total capacity of 1,500 CORCs per year by 2025 and expand its scale with two additional lines in 2026-2027, which would allow for a capacity of 4,500 CORCs per year.
