Minnesota Boosts Biofuels Infrastructure with $4 Million in Funding

August 27 2025

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) has opened a call for gas stations to apply for grants to improve their infrastructure and offer E15, a 15% ethanol gasoline. Through the AGRI Biofuels Infrastructure Grant program, approximately $4 million is expected to be awarded for the installation of certified equipment capable of handling E25 blends or higher.

Stations can apply for between $5,000 and $199,000, and must contribute at least 35% of the total project cost. Eligible equipment includes dispensers, storage tanks, and other equipment needed for biofuel distribution.

Agriculture Commissioner Thom Petersen emphasized that expanding access to E15 boosts agricultural markets, strengthens rural economies, and contributes to a cleaner future.

Applications must be submitted online by 4:00 p.m. on October 23, 2025. Only operating stations will be eligible; new stations under construction are excluded.
