Liquid Sun Ltd has announced the launch of a pilot project for the production of sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF) from biogenic CO₂ emissions.
August 22 2025
Based on research from the University of Tampere, the company has developed a low-temperature electrolysis (LTE) innovation that converts CO₂ and renewable hydrogen into eSAF.
For this pilot, located in Espoo and fully operational by fall 2025, Liquid Sun has partnered with Finnair, ABB, Fortum, and Finavia. The project seeks to establish an ecosystem and value chain for electrofuels in Finland, validating processes and creating globally scalable capabilities.
“As the owner of Finland’s airports, we at Finavia want to do everything we can across the entire aviation value chain to promote more sustainable air travel. This involves strong climate collaboration with our stakeholders, as well as actively understanding and testing new technologies across all our airport operations,” says Henri Hansson, Senior Vice President of Airport Infrastructure, Sustainability, Safety, Security & Compliance at Finavia.
