Joby Aviation Begins FAA-Compliant Fire-Up Tests of Its First Aircraft

5 Nov 2025

Joby Aviation has taken a significant step toward type certification with the commencement of FAA-compliant fire-up tests of its first aircraft. This advancement marks the beginning of miles of hardware and software integration evaluations, essential for preparing the TIA test aircraft that will allow FAA-certified pilots to fly Joby’s model in the coming months.

The process represents the final stage on the road to certification, where Joby and the FAA will work closely together to validate the aircraft’s performance, control, maneuverability, and maintainability. These tests will ensure that the design meets all the safety and reliability standards required by the U.S. authority.

Joby anticipates beginning test flights in late 2025, with FAA-certified pilots taking the controls in 2026. This milestone marks the culmination of over a decade of development for the company and brings it ever closer to commercializing its electric air taxis, reinforcing its position as a leader in the new era of sustainable aviation.
