28-oct-2025

Canadian company Horizon Aircraft (NASDAQ:HOVR) announced it has been awarded a non-dilutive grant from the Initiative for Sustainable Aviation Technology (INSAT) program to fund CRYSTAL, a project focused on developing an eVTOL propulsion system capable of operating in adverse weather conditions.

The $10.5 million project, developed in collaboration with Certification Center Canada (3C) and the University of Toronto (UofT), aims to develop advanced ice detection and protection technologies applicable to the Cavorite X7, the company’s hybrid eVTOL.

With this innovation, Horizon Aircraft seeks to achieve FIKI (Flight Into Known Icing) certification and offer a safer, faster, and more sustainable alternative to traditional helicopters, with savings of up to 75% in operating costs and an estimated reduction of 1.2 billion kilos of CO₂e annually if it replaces 4% of the global helicopter fleet.
