FedEx Expands Use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel at Chicago-O’Hare and Miami

27 Nov 2025

FedEx announced the expansion of its adoption of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) by beginning deliveries of blended SAF at Chicago-O’Hare and Miami airports. These agreements represent the company’s second and third deployments at major U.S. airports in the last six months, solidifying its position as the first U.S. cargo airline to use SAF at O’Hare.

The company noted that each contract signed contributes to increasing the supply of SAF in the market and demonstrates airlines’ willingness to collaborate in its development. At O’Hare, FedEx will receive one million gallons of pure SAF with a minimum blend of 30%, while deliveries of approximately three million gallons of blended SAF have begun in Miami.

FedEx emphasized that the adoption of SAF is part of a broader sustainability strategy that also includes fleet modernization, operational efficiency improvements, and a reduction in overall fuel consumption. The company has already avoided using 140 million gallons of fuel in fiscal year 2024 and achieved a 30% reduction in emissions intensity compared to 2005.
