FedEx Expands Use of SAF in the United States with New Additions at DFW and JFK
11 Feb 2026
FedEx has added sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) at two new U.S. airports: Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). With these additions, the company will be using blended SAF at a total of five major U.S. airports by 2025, securing the equivalent of 5 million gallons of pure SAF.
Through an agreement with World Fuel Services (WFS), FedEx will receive a total of 2 million gallons of pure SAF at DFW and JFK, supplied with a minimum blend of 30%. Deliveries at DFW began in December 2025, making FedEx the first airline—cargo or passenger—to purchase SAF at that airport outside of a pilot program.
Karen Blanks Ellis, FedEx’s Chief Sustainability Officer and Vice President of Environmental Affairs, highlighted that the SAF expansion is part of a significant year of deployments across the country. However, she emphasized the continued need to expand the available supply and strengthen policy frameworks that promote the production of sustainable fuels.
World Fuel Services noted that the operation demonstrates how a robust supply chain allows airlines to access lower-carbon fuel options, ensuring flexibility and scalability. For their part, DFW airport officials emphasized the importance of collaboration among airlines, airports, and suppliers to move toward more sustainable operations.
Outlook for 2026
Despite airlines’ growing commitment to SAF, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) projects a slowdown in global SAF production growth by 2026. FedEx has indicated that regulatory frameworks must focus not only on demand but also on incentivizing a real increase in supply.
In addition to using SAF, FedEx continues to implement efficiency improvements across its fleet of more than 700 aircraft. After achieving a 30% reduction in emissions intensity compared to 2005 levels in fiscal year 2024, the company raised its target to a 40% reduction by 2034, while maintaining its goal of achieving carbon-neutral global operations by 2040.
