DHL and Air France KLM Martinair Cargo Strengthen Alliance with New Framework Agreement Focused on Emissions Reduction

19 Dec 2025

DHL Global Forwarding and Air France KLM Martinair Cargo (AFKLMP) have signed a new framework agreement to strengthen their long-term collaboration on decarbonizing air freight. The agreement builds on their long-standing partnership, which began in 2022, and establishes a specific focus on emissions reduction allowances through the development of market-ready registration and claims models.

As part of this agreement, DHL Global Forwarding has signed a work order for 35,000 metric tons of Well-to-Wheel (WTW) CO₂e emissions reduction allowances. This approach goes beyond the traditional procurement of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) by prioritizing a structured, long-term framework that accelerates both SAF adoption and digital emissions verification processes.

Air France KLM Martinair Cargo has been one of DHL’s main carriers for the past five years and actively participates in DHL’s GoGreen Carrier Assessment Program, as well as joint industry initiatives aimed at improving transparency, standards, and practical solutions for more sustainable air freight.

The new agreement also supports the DHL Group’s goal of increasing the use of sustainable aviation fuels to 30% by 2030, enabling measurable emissions reductions and contributing to the development of standardized market mechanisms with global reach, even on routes where sustainable fuels are not yet physically available.

The agreement was signed in Amsterdam, Netherlands, with representatives from both companies, marking a further step in consolidating decarbonization models based on industry collaboration and operational scalability.
