Corteva and bp Launch Etlas™, a Joint Venture to Secure Sustainable Feedstock for SAF and Renewable Diesel

7 Jan 2026

Corteva Inc. and bp announced the launch of Etlas™, a 50/50 joint venture focused on producing sustainable vegetable oils from crops such as canola, mustard, and sunflower, for the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel (RD).

Etlas will combine Corteva’s expertise in seed technology and agriculture with bp’s capabilities in refining and marketing fuels, aiming to create a reliable and scalable supply chain for biofuels. The company aims to produce 1 million metric tons of feedstock annually by the mid-2030s, which could translate to more than 800,000 metric tons of biofuels.

Initial delivery is planned for 2027, primarily for use in co-processing at existing refineries and dedicated biofuel plants. The crops used will be planted as cover crops on existing farmland, without creating additional pressure on land use and providing benefits such as improved soil health and new sources of income for farmers.

The creation of Etlas responds to the strong projected growth in global demand for SAF and RD by 2030 and positions both companies as key players in the development of sustainable agricultural raw materials for the energy transition and the decarbonization of transportation, including aviation.
