As the aviation industry accelerates its efforts to reduce emissions and strengthen fuel supply security, electronic sustainable aviation fuel (e-SAF) is emerging as a key component of the energy mix of the future.

In this context, the Concrete Chemicals project, developed in collaboration between Zaffra and ENERTRAG, represents a significant step forward for the sector. The initiative has secured €350 million in public funding to build the largest industrial e-SAF production facility in Germany, marking a significant milestone for the decarbonization of European aviation.

Concrete Chemicals is positioned as one of the first commercial-scale e-SAF projects in Europe. Once operational, the plant is expected to deliver more than 30,000 tons of e-SAF per year, enabling an estimated savings of 100,000 tons of fossil-based CO₂ annually.

Currently, the project is progressing through its approval and technical development processes, relying on a replicable design aligned with the future European hydrogen infrastructure—a key factor for its scalability and long-term viability. This approach reinforces the potential of the e-SAF as a strategic solution within the aeronautical sector’s energy transition.

Concrete Chemicals’ progress sends a clear signal to the market: e-SAF projects are moving from planning to execution, solidifying their position as an essential component in the roadmap toward cleaner and more sustainable aviation.
