Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi and Archer Aviation to Develop UAE's First Hospital Vertiport
8-Oct-2025
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates — Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, in partnership with Archer Aviation Inc. (NYSE: ACHR), announced the development of the country’s first hospital vertiport, providing direct access via all-electric eVTOL (vertical takeoff and landing) aircraft to the region’s premier medical complex.
The project, supported by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) under its new hybrid conversion framework, seeks to significantly reduce transfer times compared to traditional ground transportation. Operations will include both non-emergent passenger uses and urgent organ transport, utilizing Archer’s Midnight model, designed to carry up to four passengers with lower noise and emissions than a conventional helicopter.
The initiative also includes the modernization of the hospital’s current heliport, allowing for mixed operations between helicopters and eVTOL aircraft, in line with Abu Dhabi’s advanced air mobility strategy.
Archer’s Director of Growth and Infrastructure, Bryan Bernhard, highlighted that this agreement “demonstrates how Archer and the GCAA are working together to unlock an urban air mobility ecosystem that connects not just locations, but essential pillars of life in Abu Dhabi.”
Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi CEO Dr. Georges-Pascal Haber emphasized that “this partnership with Archer promotes emission-free transportation, expands access options for our patients, and strengthens the logistics of the hospital’s transplant program.”
The hospital’s vertiport is part of the network of hybrid vertiports that Archer is implementing in the capital, following the recent approval of the first vertiport at the Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal, consolidating its progress toward the start of commercial operations in the region.
