Bangkok Airways Officially Implements Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) on Commercial Flights

July 21 2025

In July 2025, Bangkok Airways Public Company Limited took a key step in its climate commitment by announcing the official implementation of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) on commercial flights, as part of its “Low Carbon Skies by Bangkok Airways” campaign. This initiative reinforces the development of green aviation in Thailand and lays the foundation for an environmentally balanced future.

Captain Puttipong Prasarttong-Osoth, President of Bangkok Airways, emphasized that the official use of SAF represents a significant step toward more sustainable aviation, in line with the goals of achieving net-zero emissions. Following a pilot phase in 2024 between Samui and Bangkok, SAF will now be used on flights departing from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport to international destinations such as Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Luang Prabang, and the Maldives.

The blend used will include 1% SAF combined with 99% Jet A-1 fuel, which is estimated to reduce CO₂ by approximately 128 kg per flight on average.

Recognized as a leading regional airline, Bangkok Airways reaffirms its commitment to sustainability and creating value for its stakeholders. The company is committed to providing memorable and environmentally responsible travel experiences while driving genuine growth in the Thai airline industry.

Using a comprehensive ESG (environmental, social, and governance) approach, the airline works on climate change management, energy efficiency, waste management, responsible resource use, and the adoption of alternative energy sources. Its actions include measuring its corporate carbon footprint (Scopes 1–3), promoting the recycling and reuse of operational waste, and strengthening initiatives such as “Love Earth, Save Earth,” which, now in its eighth year, continues to support Koh Samui’s biodiversity through the planting of coconut trees.
