ABU DHABI, UAE – Archer Aviation Inc. (NYSE: ACHR), a leading developer of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, is presenting the results of its Midnight flight test campaign in the UAE, a key milestone in its Launch Edition commercialization program.
The company is demonstrating the Midnight’s full capabilities—vertical takeoff, transition, and winged flight—under real-world UAE operating conditions, including desert terrain and hot weather. These tests were conducted in close coordination with the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), and Abu Dhabi Aviation (ADA), Archer’s operating partner in the country.
As part of the Launch Edition program, Archer confirmed that it is now receiving payments from Abu Dhabi Aviation, moving closer to its goal of making Abu Dhabi the first region in the world to begin commercial operations with the Midnight.
On the regulatory front, Archer is also making progress after hosting the GCAA at its headquarters in San Jose, California, in October for another technical working session aimed at facilitating Midnight’s approval in the UAE. In parallel, its team of pilots continues to collaborate with Etihad Aviation Training to strengthen operational readiness through pilot training.
Archer founder and CEO Adam Goldstein highlighted Midnight’s performance:
“We designed Midnight to operate in adverse weather conditions like those in the UAE, with sand and heat, and it met our expectations in every phase of flight.”
Abu Dhabi Aviation CEO Mahmood Al Hameli said:
“The completion of these initial tests underscores Abu Dhabi’s commitment to an environment conducive to innovation and demonstrates how strategic partnerships can accelerate the arrival of eVTOL aircraft in the UAE.”
Archer’s push complements Abu Dhabi’s plan to develop an air taxi network with more than 10 vertiports across the emirate. Following this campaign, the company will move to the next phase of the Launch Edition program, focused on training local pilots, additional flight operations, advancing certification with the GCAA, and preparing for its first commercial operations.
These advancements keep Abu Dhabi on track to solidify its position as a global leader in advanced air mobility.
