Alaska Airlines Encourages Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Use with Status Points in Atmos Rewards

2 Dec 2025

Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines announced a new initiative to promote the adoption of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) among its Atmos Rewards program members during the holiday season. Members can earn 500 status points for every $100 spent on SAF, up to a maximum of 5,000 points, which can be accumulated to maintain or improve their status within the program.

The airline noted that in 2023, in partnership with Chooose, it became the first passenger airline in the United States to allow travelers to earn status points by contributing to SAF when booking flights. SAF can reduce carbon emissions by up to 80% over its lifecycle compared to conventional fuel, making it an essential component of Alaska’s plan to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040.

The airline also noted that more than 80,000 passengers have joined its initiative to scale the use of SAF in the last two years, furthering its EverGreen environmental strategy.
