WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean P. Duffy announced the launch of the Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing Integration Pilot Program (eIPP), an FAA initiative to accelerate the adoption of advanced air mobility (AAM) vehicles, including eVTOLs.

The program will establish public-private partnerships with state and local governments, as well as private-sector companies, to develop regulatory frameworks that facilitate safe operations.

Duffy emphasized that the initiative seeks to generate good-paying manufacturing jobs and solidify U.S. leadership in transportation innovation. FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford stated that the lessons learned will enable the large-scale implementation of AAM operations across the country.

The eIPP will include at least five pilot projects and will run for three years, beginning with the start of the first pilot. Planned operations include short-range air taxis, long-haul flights, cargo transport, and emergency logistics, as well as automation and safety testing.

The FAA invites applications from state, local, tribal, or territorial governments, as well as private U.S. partners, for manned, optionally manned, or unmanned aircraft weighing more than 600 kg, designed for passenger or cargo transport.
